Magic Winners Point To The Gold Coast

South Australian filly La Pomme De Pin will be aimed at more Magic Millions riches after her dashing win in the $200,000 Ballarat 2YO Clockwise Classic on Saturday.

The Lloyd Kennewell-trained filly led from start to finish for an impressive five and a half lengths win in Victoria's most unique race - the only clockwise event run in the southern state.

Kennewell, who purchased the filly for $85,000 at the Magic Millions Adelaide Yearling Sale, is now looking at the $2 million Magic Millions 2YO Classic at the Gold Coast in January.

Kennewell has now won Magic Millions races on the Gold Coast as well as Adelaide and Ballarat.

La Pomme De Pin Horseform made her debut in Adelaide where she was gunned down in the final metres by subsequent Merson Cooper Stakes winner Long Leaf.

The daughter of I Am Invincible was bred at Yarraman Park Stud and was sold on their behalf through the draft of Attunga Stud in Adelaide.

She is the fourth winner for her dam, the winning Danehill mare Crimson Lane, a daughter of stakes winner Crimson Road (Strawberry Road) and half sister to Crimson Reign, dam of the G2 winner Deploy (Fastnet Rock).

Sydney trainers Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott struck at Ballarat when their stakes winning filly Debonairly won the $100,000 Magic Millions Ballarat Classic on Saturday.

With Stephen Baster in the saddle, Debonairly Horseform (Sniztel x Crystal Choir by SIngpsiel) led virtually throughout for a strong win over high credentialed rivals Divine Quality and Senor Gaudi.

Bred by Tony Santic in Victoria, Debonairly was sold through the draft of Milburn Creek at the 2016 Gold Coast Yearling Sale to Waterhouse in conjunction with leading American based agent Marette Farrell for $320,000.

Debonairly is a half sister to the Quezette and Merson Cooper Stakes winner Corsaire.

TRAINER Gary Portelli will aim the fast Choisir filly Secret Lady at the $2 million Magic Millions 2YO Classic after her brilliant win over 1100m at Rosehill on Saturday in the Golden Gift.

Secret Lady was a debut second at Rosehill earlier in the month and that experience came to the fore when she scored a length and a quarter victory over the boom first starter Plague Stone.

Secret Lady Horseform (Choisir x For Yours Eyes Only by Bletchley Park) was purchased for $150,000 at the Magic Millions Perth Yearling Sale from the Gold Front Thoroughbreds draft.

"She is a Magic Millions horse and that's where the owners want to go," Portelli said. "She is owned by a ladies syndicate so there is the

bonus which goes with that.”

She may now run in the $200,000 Wyong Magic Milions (1000m) on December 21 before heading to the Gold Coast in January.

Secret Lady is out of the Listed winner For Your Eyes Only, whose other foal to race is also a winner.

Race Synopsis: The Lloyd Kennewell-trained filly La Pomme De Pin scored a very smart win. Having her second race start after a debut second at Morphettville on 28 October, she was quickly away from barrier nine and immediately went to the front. She then travelled along well at a good tempo, turned for home with a clear break before going on to score easily by five and a half lengths, handling the Soft 7 track well. The Matt Cumani-trained filly Anthemoessa, who was racing on debut, had a good trip from her inside barrier (1) racing in fourth place on the rails. She got through to second on straightening and kept fighting on to hold that position without looking likely to trouble the winner. The favourite, the Tony McEvoy-trained filly Our Toninicconi did not show much early pace before settling in eighth place on the rails. She responded to riding on turning for home, improving on the rails to be third at the 200m and kept battling on to hold the minor placing in a photo in a sound debut on the affected track.
