More Classic Success For So You Think

So You Think filly Sopressa claimed the G1 Australasian Oaks at Morphettville on Saturday, adding to the blossoming reputation of her sire as a leading classic sire.

The Darren Weir trained filly is the fourth G1 winner among 12 stakes winners by So You Think in his first two crops, joining Inference, La Bella Diosa and D’Argento as his winners at the top level.

Sold as a weanling at the Great Southern Sale in 2015 by Bucklee Farm, Sopressa (So You Think x Hidden Strings by Weasel Clause) was bought by Dowling Park for $70,000.

She races for a big group of owners and has three wins and four placings from 10 starts with prizemoney in excess of $430,000.

Sopressa Horseform progressed from a Kyneton maiden victory in March to win the G3 Auraria Stakes/Oaks double at Morphettville, becoming the second classic winner of the autumn by So You Think after D’Argento won the Rosehill Guineas in March.

Bred by Cathy Webb and Ken Dean, Sopressa is the fifth winner from the G2 winner Hidden Strings, who was covered last spring by Scat Daddy’s brilliant son No Nay Never.

Hidden Strings was a multiple G2 winner and is a half-sister to four winners. The family includes the G3 winner On With It (Keen).

Hidden Strings had her latest yearling colt by Warhorse sell for $60,000 at the recent 2018 VOBIS Gold Yearling Sale in Melbourne.

Hidden Strings was served by No Nay Never last spring.

VOBIS Gold Yearling Sale graduate I’ll Have A Bit swooped late to win the G2 Euclase Stakes at Morphettville for her second stakes victory.

I’ll Have A Bit (Smart Missile x Take Al Of Me by Jeune) was bought by trainer John McArdle’s Redgum Racing operation for $48,000 from Basinghall Farm and has now earned $531,435.

I’ll Have A Bit is among the five stakes winners by Smart Missile from his three crops to race.

She is one of two winners from the metropolitan winner Take All Of Me, a daughter of the G2 winner Tickle My (Perugino).

I’ll Have A Bit’s third dam Mere Fancy (Noalcoholic) is a half-sister to G3 winner Official Receiver (Bold Flip) and the Listed winner Brass (Prince True) who is also the dam of Listed winner Pinchbeck (Gilded Time).

Take All Of Me was served again by Smart Missile in 2017. Her yearling filly by Toronado sold for $85,000 at the VOBIS Gold Yearling Sale in April.

Snitzel mare Sprightly Lass (Snitzel x Ultimate Fever) claimed her second consecutive stakes race by winning the G3 DC McKay Stakes at Morphetville.

She was sold by Luskin Park at the 2015 Sydney Easter sale to trainers Michael, Wayne & John Hawkes for $250,000.

Schweppes Oaks 3F , 2000m
Race Synopsis: An impressive winner over 1800m here at Group Three level two weeks ago, Sopressa again won well, taking her record to three wins (three of her last four races) in ten career starts. She jumped out first but was soon headed, settling fourth in a lovely spot behind the lead next to the rail. Maintaining the trail, she was given a beautiful ride by Harry Coffey, just needing a run and before straightening moved away from the fence ready to challenge. Into the straight, the leader (Think Bleue) was going well but Sopressa ranged alongside, had a decent tussle to the 50m then forged clear but had to hold out the second placed runner. Sheezdashing was well back and three wide past the 600m, turned for home very wide then finished very strongly, almost catching the winner in a top run. Miss Admiration was also back and wide turning in then finished strongly between runners, thrusting through late to grab a close third. Pleasuring accelerated hard to be third at the 100m but was outgunned yet finished a good fourth from Think Bleue who led to the 50m but was swamped.
