Lonhro’s outstanding son Pierro has been crowned Australia’s Champion First Season Sire by earnings for the 2016-2017 season.

Pierro’s first crop runners accumulated $872,635 prize money. All Too Hard was second by earnings, his runners accumulating $734,690 prize money.

His leading earner was the G3 Magic Night Stakes winner Tulip Horseform with the Lindsay Park-trained filly amassing a total of $563,375.

Pierro ended the season with eight first crop winners, which saw him sit fourth on the First Season Sires table by winners.

Pierro, standing at Coolmore Stud for a fee of $49,500, ended the season with another promising 2YO win last weekend.

Poseidon’s Pool (Pierro x Kulgrinda, by Exceed and Excel) made it two wins in as many starts when saluting at Morphettville on Saturday for trainer Darren Weir.

A homebred for David Moodie’s Hesket Bloodstock, Poseidon’s Pool was a debut winner at Ballarat on July 13 before his second success in the 1050m juvenile contest.

Poseidon’s Pool is the first foal of G3 winner Kulgrinda.

Fastnet Rock’s son Your Song finished the season as leading first crop sire by winners.

Your Song sired 11 individual Australian winners with his progeny amassing $685,010 in prize money.

His highest earning performer was the Jon O’Connor-trained Tabbing Horseform who won twice from seven starts and collected prize money of $119,500.

He only stakes winner was Split Lip.

In New Zealand Cambridge Stud shuttle sire Power, a son of Oasis Dream, claimed the New Zealand first season sire title for the 2016-17 season.

Power, who stands the Northern Hemisphere breeding season at Coolmore Stud in Ireland, sired four winners from 13 runners for total prize money earnings of NZ$223,150.

His leading performer was Gift Of Power Horseform, who won the G2 Challenge Stakes at Trentham and amassed NZ$116,400 prize money.
