Records Expected At Scone Sale

Records for a Scone sale are expected to fall when the Turangga Stud dispersal of mares and weanlings is conducted at White Park on July 23.

The unreserved sale could see a new high price established for the venue, home of annual bloodstock sales for over 70 years.

Currently the record for a Scone sale is $120,000, paid for an I Am Invincible colt at the 2017 edition of the Hunter Valley Breeders sale in May.

The Turangga dispersal sale follows the decision of stud manager John Ramsey, son of owner Stuart Ramsey, to establish his own property catering for breaking in, training and breeding services.

Stuart Ramsey will continue to breed at Turangga Stud near Scone but on a reduced scale.

He will retain a few of the fillies he has in work and will mate the stud’s empty mares in the coming season with the view to selling them in foal next year.

There have been many achievements for the Ramseys at Turangga since they acquired the long established breeding complex in 2003.

Ramsey-bred performers have included Hong Kong champion Able Friend, G1 winners Headway, Sky Cuddle, Mr Murphy and G2 winners Elite Falls, Highly Recommended, Magic Milions winer Kauta Queen and young sire Fighting Sun.

Some of these performers are out of mares in the 90 lot dispersal catalogue or have relations among the 52 listed. They have also produced some of the 28 weanlings listed.

There are 10 Group and stakes winners among the mares including Irish Darling (Ivory’s Wish), Niagara Falls (Danehill), Tenant’s Tiara (Beautiful Crown), Brilliant Bisc (Elvstroem),Torah (Spinning World), Sojustremberthis (Flying Spur) and Trust Antonia (National Assembly).

Among the other well performed and related mares are Tiarazou (Zizou), Bella Epoch (Street Cry), Almost Tempted (Snippetson), Beyond Rare (Redoute’s Choice, Blue Ruby (Lonhro and All Night Girl (Manhattan Rain).

The weanling section includes colts by Sebring, Dawn Approach, Nicconi, Declaration Of War, Manhattan Rain, Rubick, Denman, All Too Hard, Domesday and Pluck and fillies by Lonhro, Epaulette, Your Song, Hinchinbrook, Denman,Toronado and Testa Rossa.

Seven of the weanlings are by Trusting, one of two resident sires at Turangga Stud.

Winner of the G2 Hill Stakes, G2 Chelmsford Stakes and G2 Warwick Stakes and runner up in the G1 Golden Rose, G1 Epsom and G1 George Main Stakes, Trusting is a son of Tale Of The Cat and Zabeel’s G2 winner Legible.

Trusting’s first crop are current 3YOs. He stands at Turangga with Money Or The Gun, a son of Octagonal bred by the Ramsey’s who had only three starts for a win at Cranbourne and second at Mornington.
