Redoute's Choice Tops Gold Coast Leaderboard

Champion sire Redoute’s Choice continues to be the pacesetting sire at the 2019 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale with another of his colts topping the second session on Thursday.

After topping the opening session on Wednesday with a $1.6 million colt, Redoute's Choice again led the way on Day 2 when he was responsible for two of the five lots sold for over $1 million including the top seller at $1.4 million.

Across two days the sale has grossed a record $103.65 million (up from $89.6 million last year) with the average price sitting at $251,578 for 412 lots sold at a clearance rate of 85 per cent.

Segenhoe Stud offered Thursday’s top priced Redoute's Choice colt from Breakfast in Bed who sold to James Harron Bloodstock.

The colt is the second foal of the seven-time winner and stakes performed Hussonet mare Breakfast in Bed, a half-sister to this season's G1 winning filly Oohood.

The colt hails from the family of the inaugural Magic Millions 2YO Classic winner and champion sire Snippets.

"It's an incredible pedigree - he's virtually a three quarter brother to Not a Single Doubt and he's much in the same mould,” said Harron, who has been a leading buyer of high priced colts at the Magic Millions sale for the last four years.

James Moore, son of trainer Gary Moore, joined with Summit Racing Australia to secure the other seven figure Redoute's Choice x Aware colt for $1.075 million.

Two lots shared second place on the leaderboard - a Fastnet Rock x Ballet Suite colt and the I Am Invincible x Champagne Cath colt - both selling for $1.1 million.

Jon Kelly, Reg Inglis and Jamie McCalmont teamed up to buy the Coolmore Stud offered Fastnet Rock colt from Ballet Suite.

The colt is the first foal of his dam, a stakes winning and group performed daughter of High Chaparral.

Trainer Chris Waller and bloodstock agent Guy Mulcaster teamed up to buy the I Am Invincible x Champagne Cath colt.

"I bought Champagne Cath as a yearling and she won her first start very impressively," Mulcaster said. "We love the I Am Invincible factor and we thought he was a beautiful colt.

"We stretched our budget a little bit but luckily we managed to get him.

A Zoustar colt from Acouplamas offered by KBL Thoroughbreds, as agent for Bowcock Bloodstock, sold for $1.075 million to Yulong Investments and will be heading to the Peter and Paul Snowden stable.

Magic Millions managing director Barry Bowditch said he was delighted with how the sale is playing out and the depth of the buying bench.

"We thought the momentum would flow on but you never take it for granted," Bowditch said.

"It was another strong day's selling and there were plenty of buyers getting on the board.

“It's a great spread of buyers. No one is really dominating the market."
