The win was a change of fortune for the age group in Group races against the older generations this season after several highly vaunted colts had failed to meet expectations.

The likes of last season’s top juvenile colts Capitalist Horseform, Extreme Choice Horseform, Star Turn Horseform and Flying Artie Horseform have all failed to win in open Group races this season.

Not so Russian Revolution Horseform, who is now poised to go on to the $2 million TJ Smith Stakes at Randwick on April 1 where another win would add to his growing value when he starts his stud career at Newgate Farm.

Capitalist was retired to Newgate Farm last month due to an injury before the Scone stud announced that star sprinting colts Flying Artie and Extreme Choice would be joining him just 48 hours before Russian Revolution, owned by a powerful syndicate of investors, landed his maiden G1 win.

Newgate Farm’s Henry Field was relieved to get such an important result in the Galaxy.

“The result is a very important one for us. This does a lot for China Horse Club and our partners,” Field said.

“Racing’s a tough game. We retired Extreme Choice and Flying Artie, we hadn’t had a great preparation with them and things went wrong so we decided to retire them rather than chase our tail.

“This horse just showed he’s a real Snitzel, he handled this track and he won very well.’

“He’s an incredibly well bred colt, incredibly talented and he’ll make a huge impact at stud.

“Peter and Paul Snowden said he was the real deal from the beginning, and that’s been vindicated with his Group 1.”

A $320,000 buy from the 2015 Easter Yearling Sale by China Horse Club with Michael Wallace Bloodstock, Russian Revolution (Snitzel x Ballet D’Ámour) has been beaten only once in six starts.

Russian Revolution is from the family of champion sires Encosta de Lago and Flying Spur and is a three quarter brother to G1 winner Wandjina.

Race Synopsis: The Peter and Paul Snowden-trained colt Russian Revolution is now the winner of five of his six starts and he resumed to score his first win at Group One level with a very smart first up performance. He began well from his outside barrier (14) and was sixth early on (out deep) before improving to race in fourth spot (still wide). He challenged nearing the 200m and the finished a bit too well to win in good style despite a wide trip. His stablemate Redzel showed his usual early pace and travelled in third place, but three wide after starting from a wide barrier (11). He got to the front at the 200m and was only caught in the closing stages for second, putting up a really good effort. The $51 outsider Jungle Edge was smartly away from his good barrier (2), soon drove through to lead, held a clear advantage on straightening and then held on well for a close up third after running a bold race.
