Santa Ana Lane Completes Historic Double

Lope De Vega gelding Santa Ana Lane can rightly challenge for the title of best sprinter in Australia after completing a history making season in the $1.5 million Stradbroke Handicap at Doomben.

Santa Ana Lane’s Stradbroke triumph was his third at G1 level this season and made him the first horse in history to annex the G1 Goodwood Handicap/Stradbroke double in the same season.

The Anthony Freedman trained 5YO also won the G1 Rupert Clarke Stakes last spring and is now the winner of $2,228,711 in stakes courtesy of seven wins and six placings from 27 outings.

Santa Ana Lane Horseform is raced by the Melbourne-based William Street Syndicate, a group that has raced raced some very good gallopers over the years including Gurner’s Lane (Melbourne and Caulfield Cups), Paris Lane (Caulfield Cup) and De Gaulle Lane.

Victoria’s Rosemont Stud sold Santa Ana Lane (Lope De Vage x Fast Fleet by Fastnet Rock) as a yearling on behalf of breeder Dyson Hore-Lacy for $80,000 at the 2014 Melbourne Premier Yearling Sale.

He is the only foal to race for his winning dam Fast Fleet, a three-quarter sister to the Macau stakes-placed Strategy (Danehill) and a half-sister to G3 winner Blimey O’Reilly (O’Reilly) and Listed winner Flag Officer (Excites).

Santa Ana Lane’s third dam Far Flying (Far North) was a US stakes winner and dam of G3 winner Dalhart (Forty Niner) and Listed winner Rose Frances (Crafty Prospector).

Fast Fleet is also the dam of a two-year-old filly by Kuroshio and a yearling filly by Toorak Toff. She was covered by Frosted last spring.

Santa Ana Lane is one of 40 individual stakes winners including six G1 winners by former shuttler Lope De Vega (Shamardal).

French Derby winner Lope De Vega, who shuttled for four years from 2011 to 2014, stands at Ballylinch Stud in Ireland.

CLASSY Sebring mare Sedanzer dispelled any doubts about her wet track ability with her dominant win in the G2 Brisbane Cup at Doomben.

Sedanzer Horseform, purchased by Bluebloods Thoroughbreds for $125,000 at the 2015 Gold Coast Magic Millions Yearling Sale, has become a versatile winner over a a range of distances despite being bred on a cross of two Golden Slipper winners Sebring and Danzero.

Sedanzer (Sebring x Voltdanze by Danzero) has raced nine times this season for five wins including three in a row in Sydney plus the Scone Cup in May and has been twice Group placed and second in January’s $1 million Magic Millions Trophy.

All up, Sedanzer has raced 18 times for eight wins, three placings and $786,221 in prizemoney.

Commencing operation in 2010, Blueblood Thoroughbreds was syndicating around eight to 10 horses annually and upped the ante to 20 in 2017.

In the last 10 months the syndicate horses have won over $2 million in prizemoney and include G1 winners Secret Agenda and Seabrook and dual stakes winner She’s So High.

Sedanzer is one of 44 stakes winners by Sebring while his dam Voltdanze is a half sister to G1 Rosehill Guineas winner Dealer Principal and closely related to G1 winners Grand Armee and Drum.

Sedanzar has a weanling half-brother by Unencumbered with Voltdanze again in foal to that late sire who died in March.

Love Conquers All mare Savanna Amour continues to prove herself, winning her fifth stakes race in the Listed Hinkler Handicap at Doomben.

Savanna Amour Horseform[ was purchased by OnTrack thoroughbreds for $100,000 at the 2015 Sydney Classic Yearling Sale. Her prizemoney now stands in excess of $600,000.

* I Am Invincible’s 4YO mare Invincibella recorded her maiden stakes victory in the G2 Dane Ripper Stakes at Doomben.

Invincibella (I Am Invincible x Abscond by Galileo) is her sire’s 32nd stakes winner.

Race Synopsis: Santa Ana Lane followed his impressive late-closing victory in The Goodwood (Gr 1, 1200m) at Morphettville on 19 May with another Group One victory here, his third from 27 starts to date. He settled a bit closer from a better barrier (3) in seventh place on the rails, got along the inner from the home turn, hit the front approaching the 100m and drew clear to win well. Andrew Noblet-trained mare Super Cash, who had finished fourth behind Santa Ana Lane in The Goodwood, raced in fifth (wide with cover), moved up well at the home turn and then battled gamely for a very good second. The favourite Champagne Cuddles enjoyed a good trip from her inside barrier (1) in third place on the rails, briefly looked dangerous when she put in a run on straightening and then fought well to take third after seeming to have had every chance. Crack Me Up was tenth, between runners, made a wide move nearing the home turn and kept running on really well for fourth, beaten just over two lengths. Perast led the field and despite a tendency to hang out a bit from the 600m, was still on front on straightening. He then held on for (2.2 lengths) fifth. Shillelagh was midfield to the home turn and battled on along the rails for (3.2 lengths) sixth while multiple Group One winner Impending raced in eighth place, looked for a split on turning for home but was never fully clear and went to the post under his top weight (57.5kg) in restricted room for (3.4 lengths) seventh.
