South African Stud Takes The United States

Galileo’s international performer The United States, winner of the G1 Ranvet Stakes during his career in Australia, has been sold to South Africa’s Moutonshoek Stud.

The stud farm, located on the Western Cape, has also acquired Admiral Kitten, a G1-winning son of Kitten’s Joy, in a double boost for the South African breeding industry.

The seven-year-old The United States Horseform was originally trained by Aidan O'Brien in Irelkand where he won the G3 Enterprise Stakes as a 3YO.

He was later purchased by Lloyd Williams to race in Australia for his private trainer Robert Hickmott and became a noted G1 performer highlighted by his win over Criterion and Mongolian Khan in the 2016 Ranvet Stakes at Rosehill.

He also won the G2 Moonee Valley Gold Cup and G2 Crystal Mile at Moonee Valley before ending his career last month with an unplaced effort in the QE II Cup at Sha Tin in Hong Kong.

The United States is a brother to G3 winner Hydrangea and a half-brother to high-class two-year-old Fire Lily.

His dam Beauty Is Truth, by Pivotal, is a G2 winner from the family of Breeders' Cup Mile winner Last Tycoon and classic winners Tie Black and Valentine Waltz.

Admiral Kitten will be the first son of champion US turf sire Kitten's Joy to stand in South Africa. He began his stud career last year at Stroud’s Lane Farm in Florida.

He won the G1 Secretariat Stakes at Arlington in Chicago and finished second in the G1 Hollywood Derby and G1 Jamaica Handicap for his owner-breeders Ken and Sarah Ramsey.

The seven-year-old is out of the winning Grand Slam mare Reachinforthestars and is related to South African champion sire Fort Wood.
