UNBEATEN Domesday two-year-old Royal Symphony confirmed his status as a leading contender for the G1 Caulfield Guineas by winning the Listed Taj Rossi Series Final at Flemington.

Registered as the Gibson Carmichael Stakes (1600m), the win by a widening four and a quarter lengths gave the Tony McEvoy-trained colt his third dominant victory in succession, having previously scored at Pakenham and Flemington.

McEvoy said he has now earmarked the Caulfield Guineas in the spring for Royal Symphony.

"He's a proper horse," McEvoy said. "It was really nice to see him back it up and do it again. He carried the penalty today and he looked like a horse of real substance to me.

Royal Symphony (Domesday x Naturalist by Palace Music) has won all of his career starts for prize money of $140,750.

Domesday (Red Ransom) has now produced 16 stakes winners including this year’s G1 Queensland Derby winner Ruthven and G1 winners Pressday and Doctor Doom.

Royal Symphony is the final foal out of his dam Naturalist, who is a three-quarter sister to triple G1 winner Naturalism and Queensland Oaks winner Crystal Palace, the dam of dual G2 winner Palacio De Cristal.

Naturalist, who raced only twice, is also a sister to Wailing, the dam of South African Listed winner Tawny Run, and is the dam of six winners from 12 foals to race.

Royal Symphony is a half-brother to the Listed Bendigo Cup second Hoodlum (Zeditave), while his second dam is the G3 winner Tessuti (Sackford).

THE rapid rise of classy Reward For Effort sprinter Ability continued when he made it three straight wins in the Listed All Victorian Sprint Series Final at Flemington.

The Robert Smerdon-trained four-year-old backed up his impressive wins at Moonee Valley and Flemington this campaign.

Smerdon revealed that Ability, who was spelled last September after being unplaced at Moonee Valley, had been gelded and underwent surgery to remove a bone chip during his break.

A $150,000 purchase by Matchem Racing from Yallambee Stud at the 2014 Melbourne Premier Yearling Sale, Ability (Reward For Effort x Paeroa by Dubai Destination) has now won six of his 15 starts with four placings and has amassed $278,250 in career prize money.

He is the only foal to race from Paeroa, a placed half-sister to G2 winner Well Rounded (Reset).

Ability’s third dam, the unraced Ring Of Music (Sadler’s Wells), is the dam of four-time European G1 winner Campanologist (Kingmambo).

Ability’s fourth dam is the US and Canadian G1 winner Glorious Song (Halo), who was Canada’s Horse of the Year in 1980 and champion older mare in Canada and the US in the same year.

Among her progeny are successful stallions Singspiel (In The Wings), Rakeen (Northern Dancer) and champion sire Rahy (Blushing Groom).

Paeroa was purchased for $70,000 by Hancock Quality Bloodstock at the 2016 Magic Millions National Broodmare Sale in foal to Helmet.

Ability is the second stakes winner in as many weeks for his sire Reward For Effort (Exceed And Excel) and the sixth overall, joining G3 winners Take Pride,Gold Symphony and Brugal Reward, Listed winners Dalradian and Desert Lashes. Gold Symphony added last week’s winner of the Listed Civic Stakes at Rosehill.

CLANGALANG’s s in-form Tasmanian raider Tshahitsi will return to his home state after claiming the biggest success of his career in the Listed Winter Championship Series Final at Flemington.

Trained by Chris Crook and Imogen Miller, the dual stakes winner rounded out a six-start Victorian campaign that yielded an Echuca Cup victory and two wins at Flemington.

he five-year-old gelding was ridden by champion Tasmanian jockey Brendon McCoull to beat the 2015 Winter Championship Series Final winner Amovatio (Al Maher).

The 5YO Tshahitsi (Clangalang x Kita Ryokan by Grand Lodge) has now won 11 times from 24 starts for career prize money of $348,275.

Bred and part-owned by his co-trainer Chris Crook, Tshahitsi is a son of the Grand Lodge mare Kita Ryokan, who was a winner in Tasmania and has had four foals to race for three winners.

Tshahitsi is the sole stakes winner in his first three dams, but his fourth dam Tullette (Tulloch) is from the same family as G2 winner Rich Enuff (Written Tycoon).

He is one of five stakes winner by Clangalang (Clang), who stood in NSW and South Australia before joining Tasmania’s GG Horse Stud at Broadmarsh in 2015.

THE Lindsay Park-trained Highland Beat provided Exceed And Excel with his 134 individual stakes winner when he won the Listed AR Creswick Stakes at Flemington.

The rising four-year-old colt finished second in the G3 Vain Stakes a race won by subsequent G1 winner Russian Revolution, and was again runner-up to Defcon in the G3 McNeil Stakes.

Highland Beat (Exceed And Excel x Highland Daughter by Kyllachy) has now won tree times with six seconds and a third, which includes four stakes placings.

A $140,000 purchase by Lindsay Park Bloodstock at the 2015 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale from the Glenlogan Park draft, Highland Beat is a son of the European G3-placed mare Highland Daughter (Kyllachy), a half-sister to stakes winner Ryan (Generous) who was Slovakia’s Horse of the Year in 2006. The colt’s second dam Raysiza (Alzao), was a Listed winner in Italy and is a half-sister to the stakes-placed Razana (Kahyasi), who is the dam of Hong Kong Classic Mile winner Helene Mascot (Peintre Celebre).

Highland Daughter’s two foals to race are both winners, with Highland Beat the sole stakes winner

Race Synopsis: Former Tasmanian-trained and Listed stakes winner there, Tshahitsi has thrived since transferring to Victoria, taking his record to 11 wins from 24 starts; three wins in his last four starts. Under jockey Brendon McCoull, he jumped well from the outside draw (12) to be a handy third yet three wide when they settled. He held his position around the bend and into the straight, challenged for the lead inside the 400m and took over narrowly at the 300m. From there he was challenged on the inner and outer but refused to give in, holding on gamely by a neck at the post. Amovatio settled second last (one out) past the 800m, moved out near the last corner but did not see daylight until the 200m then ran on well but a little late for a good second. Sovereign Nation was last turning in (rails) but had a lovely clear run, ran up to second then faded slightly to be not far away in third. In a good line up for fourth, Loyalty Man flew from the pack late when it was all over.
