Drivers to replace horses and run for the kids

The annual fundraising effort for the Royal Children’s Hospital Good Friday Appeal gets under way this weekend and trots fans are being encouraged to dig deep for a wonderful cause.

As is the norm every year, the pony trots’ kids will be involved in the Good Friday Appeal Cup race, where horses are replaced by trots participants (trainers, drivers etc.) pulling a sulky up the famous Tabcorp Park Melton straight.

This year’s event will take place Thursday March 29.

Last year's event was incredibly popular (video shot live of the event below).

The Victorian trots community will be represented on Channel 7’s Good Friday Appeal coverage by pony trots participant Connor Clarke and his family.

The Royal Children’s Hospital in Melbourne has become a home away from home for Connor and his family after the young trots fan was diagnosed with Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma – a cancer rarely seen in children – last year.

Connor will present the Children’s Hospital with a cheque for money raised by the trots community live on Channel 7.

If you are at Tabcorp Park Melton this Saturday night for City of Melton Plate Night please keep an eye out for the tins and make a donation.

If you can’t make it track side, you can donate directly through Rachel on 0402 999 528
