Shez All Rock sets new Oaks record in brilliant win

Shez All Rock enhanced an already brilliant record with a dazzling win in tonight’s Group 1 Always B Miki Victoria Oaks Final at Tabcorp Park Melton.

The long odds-on favourite had the plum gate three draw for trainer-driver Mark Pitt, but had to earn the lead early when Kerryn Manning’s Our Bare Knuckle held out a challenge from Kima Frenning aboard Frankincense, both drawn underneath Shez All Rock.

Pitt remained cool and took up the lead at the first opportunity, Shez All Rock pinching a break approaching the home bend before holding off a late challenge by an incredibly valiant Speak No Evil to score by a neck in a race record 1:55.1.

Speak No Evil and Nathan Jack almost caused a boil-over from barrier 13, while Soho Burning Love was exploding home late for Mick Stanley in third place, ahead of Nostra Villa in fourth.

Shez All Rock is by Rock N Roll Heaven out of Mach Three mare Just Irish Loch.

She has won seven of her eight career starts to date and by winning tonight became the first filly since Bob and Vin Knight's Jane Ellen back in 1989 to claim the NSW / Victorian Oaks double.
