Ballymacoll Stud Dispersal At Tattersalls
Ireland’s famous Ballymacoll Stud will conduct one of the most important dispersal sales of recent times at Tattersalls from October.
The County Meath stud farm has reared 30 Group One winners since its purchase by the Weinstock family 57 years ago.
The dispersal at Tattersalls will number almost 50 lots comprised of 14 mares, 16 fillies and colts in and out of training, nine yearlings and nine foals, all of which trace back to two Ballymacoll foundation mares Country House and Sunny Valley.
The Ballymacoll Stud Dispersal will begin at Book 1 of the October Yearling Sale, Europe’s premier yearling sale, and culminate at the Tattersalls December Sale.
The star lots will include four time G1 winner Islington in foal to Kingman and the 9YO Galileo mare Justlookdontouch in foal to Sea The Stars.
Justlookdontouch’s first foal, the Sir Michael Stoute-trained multiple Listed winner Abingdon, will be one of the eight regally bred fillies in training to be offered.
The Ballymacoll Stud Dispersal will also feature yearlings and foals by established classic and G1 sires including Exceed And Excel, Lope De Vega, Oasis Dream, Sea The Stars, Shamardal, Golden Horn, Gleneagles and Kingman.
Tattersalls Chairman Edmond Mahony said “For more than 50 years the famous pale blue silks of Ballymacoll Stud have been a symbol of excellence throughout the thoroughbred world and Tattersalls is honoured to have been entrusted with the dispersal of such an outstanding collection of bloodstock.
“Rarely, if ever, has a broodmare band of relatively modest numbers achieved so much on the global stage.”
Ballymacoll Stud’s long-serving manager Peter Reynolds said it has been a privilege to oversee the racing and breeding operation on behalf of the Weinstock family for 45 years.
“We have enjoyed so many truly wonderful days on racecourses throughout the world and I am enormously proud of what the team at Ballymacoll Stud has achieved over the years,” he said.
“To have owned or bred the winners of the Derby, the Oaks, the 2000 Guineas, the St Leger, the Irish Derby, the Irish Oaks, the Irish 2000 Guineas, the Melbourne Cup, the Breeders Cup Turf, the Breeders Cup Filly and Mare Turf and the Japan Cup in the last 50 years is a magnificent tribute to the commitment of the Weinstock family and all associated with Ballymacoll Stud.”
