Cracksman Wins Prix Niel For Frankel

Frankel’s outstanding colt Cracksman warmed up for a tilt at the Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe with a comfortable success in the G2 Prix Niel at Chantilly on Sunday.

The John Gosden-trained colt followed up his easy win in the G2 Great Voltigeur Stakes at York last month in the hands of Frankie Dettori.

Cracksman Horseform (Frankel x Rhadegunda by Pivotal) swept into the lead at the 300m and stretched clear to beat Avilius (Pivotal) by three and a half lengths, with another Frankel colt Finche sticking on for third.

The last horse to complete the Prix Niel/Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe double was Rail Link in 2006.

“He needed one race in between and the timing of this was perfect. He won like we hoped and now it is a question of making a decision about what happens next,” said owner Andrew Oppenheimer.

“If he runs in the Arc, we will have to use another jockey and I’m not certain we want that.”

Despite the ease of Cracksman’s win Dettori left no doubt as to his loyalties regarding the Arc, declaring that he will ride champion filly Enable Horseform.

Cracksman is from the Pivotal mare Rhadegunda, s Listed winner and dam of the G3 Solario Stakes winner Fantastic Moon.

His third dam is the 1000 Guineas and Sussex Stakes heroine On the House (Be My Guest), dam of the G2 winner Leo (Pivotal) from the family of the Oppenheimer’s G1 winner Rebecca Sharp (Machiavellian) and the G1 Epsom Derby, G1 Eclipse and G1 Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe hero Golden Horn (Cape Cross).

German stayer Dschingis Secret (Soldier Hollow x Divya by Platini) ran out a clear cut winner of the G2 Prix Foy (2400m) at Chantilly to book himself a start in the Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe.

A last start winner of the G1 Grosser Preis von Berlin (2400m) beat Cloth Of Stars and Talismanic while the Japanese challenger Satono Diamond had no answer to Dschingis Secret’s finishing kick.
