First Stakeswinner For Animal Kingdom

Animal Kingdom has sired his first stakes winner with his US-bred daughter Sunny Skies recording a decisive victory at Churchill Downs in the Listed Debutante Stakes.

The 2YO filly Sunny Skies took up an early lead and skipped clear in the straight to hold off Upset Brewing's late challenge by 1.75 lengths.

Sunny Skies gave Animal Kingdom the perfect start to his northern hemisphere stud career when she won her Keeneland debut by nine lengths in April.

Bred and raced by Normandy Farm, Sunny Skies is out of the unraced Marquetry mare Skyscape and is a half-sister to G2 winner Sky Cape.

Animal Kingdom’s first Australian 2YOs have also made a strong start this season with five winners among his 16 runners to date.

His five winners include G3-placed Lord Cecil, Flemington winner Royal Phoenix and the promising Earth Angel.

Animal Kingdom has completed his fourth northern hemisphere season in Kentucky and will return to Arrowfield Stud this spring.

DARLEY stallion Dawn Approach recorded his first winner on Saturday when Haddaf won over five furlongs at Newcastle in the UK.

Placed in the Listed National Stakes at Sandown in May, Haddaf Horseform (Dawn Approach x Deveron by Cozzene) cruised into the lead and pulled well clear to score by four lengths.

Bred by Rabbah Bloodstock, Haddaf is a half-brother to Lamar (Cape Cross), winner of the Listed Fleur de Lys Stakes.

The pair are out of the G1-placed Cozzene mare Deveron, a sister to G1 placed Windward Islands.

Dawn Approach, by New Approach, was the undefeated European Champion 2YO winning six times including the G1 National Stakes and G1 Dewhurst Stakes.

At three he added victories in the G1 2000 Guineas and G1 St James's Palace.

Dawn Approach will be standing in NSW this spring at Kelvinside in the Hunter Valley.

• MONTJEU’s outstanding son Camelot sired his first winner when his 2YO filly Stella Di Camelot won a maiden at Saint-Cloud in France.

Stella Di Camelot Horseform (Camelot x Star Force by Blu Air Force) is the first foal produced by a winning half-sister to dual Italian highweight Blu Constellation (Orpen) from a family which includes the G1 winner and sire Oratorio (Danehill).

Camelot was the unbeaten G1-winning champion two-year-old of his year and went on to win the 2000 Guineas and the Epsom Derby at three.

DUBAWI recorded his 29th individual G1 winner on Sunday when his four-year-old son Zarak won the Grand Prix de Saint-Cloud in France.

Zarak Horseform swept down the outside in the straight to beat last year’s winner Silverwave, taking his career earnings to over a million pounds.

Owned and bred by The Aga Khan, Zarak is from the unbeaten four-time G1 winner Zarkava, winner of the Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe in 2008.

Dubawi went to 29 G1 winners on Sunday when the Roger Varian-trained Nezwaah Horseform ( Dub awi x Ferdoos by Dansili) won the Pretty Polly Stakes at the Curragh.

She overwhelmed her rivals to win by 3.25 lengths, beating Rain Goddess (Galileo) and the Fastnet Rock pair Turret Rocks and Zhukova.

Dubawi has sired 14 individual Group winners this year plus a further four black type winners and 17 placed at stakes level.

They include G1 winners Almanaar and Sobetsu, G2 winner Dartmouth and the Royal Ascot Group winners Coronet and Benbatl.

WINDSTOSS, a German bred colt by Shirocco, won the G1 Deutsches Derby in Hamburg on Sunday.

WIndstoss Horseform, trained by Markus Klug, is a Gestut Rottgen homebred out of Wellenspiel (Sternkonig) and has now won three of his eight starts.
