Galileo Reigns Over The Curragh

Exciting 2YO filly Happily nailed her stablemate Magical on the line to win the G1 Moyglare Stud Stakes at the Curragh on Sunday, providing a quinella for their champion sire Galileo and becoming his 68th Group One winner.

The filly was delivered with a strong late run by Donnacha O’Brien to beat Magical by a short head with September (Deep Impact) running on to take third.

All three placegetters are trained by Aidan O’Brien.

Happily Horseform (Galileo x You’resothrilling by Storm Cat) added to another dominant weekend of three G1 wins by Galileo’s progeny after his gun stayer Order Of St George won the G1 Irish St Leger on the same program and Decorated Knight won the Irish Champion Stakes on Saturday.

Happily had earned plaudits after she won the G3 Silver Flash Stakes by five lengths at Leopardstown in July that followed a course-and-distance maiden win in June. Her record now stands at three wins from five starts.

She was beaten 1.25 lengths by Magical last start but this time tracked her stablemate and gave extra to grind out the win and give Aidan O’Brien a record eighth win in the race.

“Happily has a lot of options now including the Fillies’ Mile at Newmarket and the Prix Marcel Boussac at Chantilly. All those races are open to her,” O’Brien said.

Happily is the latest Galileo prodigy out of Storm Cat’s G2 and G3 winner You’resothrilling, whose sister Pearling is the dam of Saturday’s G1 Irish Champion Stakes hero Decorated Knight (Galileo).

You’resothriling is also the dam of Galileo’s other Coolmore-bred G1 champions Gleneagles and Marvellous

The second dam is Rahy’s G2 winner Mariah’s Storm, the producer of champion sire Giant’s Causeway and a daughter of Immense (Roberto).

ORDER OF ST GEORGE put his shock defeat in the 2016 edition firmly behind him when he won Sunday’s G1 Irish St Leger for a second time.

Winner of the classic for the first time as a 3YO in 2015, Order Of St George ended up on the far rail as he galloped clear of the NZ-owned Fastnet Rock stayer Torcedor.

Trainer Aidan O’Brien revealed that Order Of St George could be heading back to Chantilly for the Arc on October 1 after finishing third last year.

“He’s an unbelievable horse. He has class, he handles all grounds and he can stay as far as two and a half miles,” he said.

“He has the choice of returning for the Arc or going to the Melbourne Cup. I suppose the Arc might be the favoured option, but we’ll see.”

Order Of St George Horseform is one of four stakes winners from the Gone West mare Another Storm.

His second dam is Summer Squall’s GI Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies winner and champion US 2YO filly Storm Song, a half sister to G2 winner Diamond Omi (Giant’s Causeway).

Storm Song’s descendants include the G2 winner Midsummer Fair and Singapore champion Better Life.

Order Of St George’s record now standsd at 10 wins from 20 starts with seven placings and earnings of over $US2 million.

The runner-up Torcedor Horseform (Fastnet Rock x Magnolia Lane by Sandler’s Wels) is owned by New Zelaand’s Te Akau Racing, managed by David Ellis.
