Aptly named youngster Glorious Journey, the joint-highest priced yearling sold in the world last year, made a winning start to his career for Godolphin when he won al 2YO Novice Stakes at Newmarket on Saturday.

The beautifully bred son of Dubawi from Dansili’s G1 Coronation Stakes winner Fallen For You was purchased for Godolphin by John Ferguson for 2.6 million guineas at Book 1 of the 2016 Tattersalls October Yearling Sale.

Consigned by Norris Bloodstock on behalf of Philippa Cooper's Normandie Stud, Glorious Journey is from a family of multiple Group winners including G1 Lockinge Stakes winner Fly To The Stars.


Fallen For You, also bred by Normandie Stud, is out of the Listed winner Fallen Star, whose other progeny include Heron Stakes winner Fallen Idol and Lancashire Oaks runner-up Fallen In Love, dam of the French G3 winner Loving Things.

The German 2000 Guineas winner Peace At Last also appears under Glorious Journey's third dam Rise And Fall.

Fallen For You has a yearling colt by Frankel and this year foaled a brother to Glorious Journey, who is trained for Godolphin by Charlie Appleby

It was the first of four victories for Godolphin at Newmarket with three of the winners trained by Appleby.

Glorious Journey was equal top among the most expensive yearlings sold last year, sharing the top price of 2.6 million guineas with Emaraaty, another Dubawi colt out of Zee Zee Top purchased by Sheikh Hamdan Al Maktoum's Shadwell operation at the same Tattersalls October Sale.

He is in training with John Gosden.

Glorious Journey's success was also the first leg of a three-timer at Newmarket for Dubawi while he was responsible for the quinella in the G3 Pinnacle Stakes at Haydock Park where the fillies Bateel beat Dubka.

This was the second successive victory for Dubawi in this race after Journey's triumph last season. Journey went on to win the G1 British Champions Fillies & Mares Stakes on Champions Day at Ascot.

Bateel is the second stakes winner from the Chief’s Crown mare Attractive Crown after the Prix Charles Laffitte heroine Basemah.

Attractive Crown won in both Ireland and the US and was placed in the G2 Pretty Polly Stakes.

Dubawi has sired 16 individual Group and Listed winners this year headed by G1-winning duo Almanaar and Sobetsu and G2 winner Dartmouth.
