International Results Delight Arrowfield Stud

Neorealism, a three-quarter brother to shuttle sire Real Impact, claimed another major international trophy for Japan with a stunning victory in Sunday’s G1 Audemars Piguet Queen Elizabeth II Cup at Sha Tin in Hong Kong.

Briliantly ridden by champion jockey Joao Moreira, Neorealism took the lead after 1100 metres and unleashed a fast 44.8 final 800 metres to hold out Pakistan Star and last season's QEII Cup winner and Hong Kong Horse of the Year Werther.

The QEII Cup is Neorealism's first G1 victory, but he has won twice at G2 level in Japan and was third in last year's G1 Kyoto Mile Championship won by Mikki Isle.

Real Impact, Mikki Isle and Maurice make up a trio of Japanese sires who will be standing in Australia this spring at Arrowfield Stud.

Bred by Katsumi Yoshida's Northern Racing, Neorealism (Neo Universe) and dual G1 winner Real Impact (Deep Impact) are both by sons of Sunday Silence out of Tokio Reality, also the dam of multiple stakeswinner I'll Love Again (El Condor Pasa).

Neorealism, the second Japanese-bred winner of the QEII Cup after Rulership in 2012, has now earned almost $5 million for owner U. Carrot Farm and trainer Noriyuki Hori.

Real Impact, winner of the G1 George Ryder Stakes at Rosehill and the G1 Yasuda Kinen in Japan, covered 134 mares at Arrowfield in 2016.

There was more international success for Arrowfield when another of the first US starter by another of the stud’s shuttle sires Animal Kingdom's won her debut at Keeneland on April 28 by nine lengths.

A daughter of the unraced mare Skyscape (Marquetry), Sunny Skies is a half-sister to G2 winner Sky Cape and is trained by Kenny McPeek for owner-breeder Nancy Polk's Normandy Farm.

Animal Kingdom posted his third Australian winner from his first crop when 2YO gelding Lord Cecil (ex Lady Zabelia by Zabeel) won his debut at Muswellbrook on April 21.

THE AUDEMARS PIGUET QEII CUP 3U , 2000m
Race Synopsis: Neorealism settled down in third last position, about seven lengths from the early leader The United States. Pulling hard against the slow early pace Moreira let the Japanese-trained horse have his head at the 1000m mark making a move to the lead and considerably quickened up the pace. He turned for home a clear leader and kicked strongly withstanding all challengers to score a well earned victory. Pakistan Star was good in defeat once again. He was away suprisingly well from the gates settling down in third position on the fence before being shuffled back to fifth on the fence when Neorealism made his mid-race move. Taken to the outside of the field on turning for home he picked up well under De Sousa but could not pick off the determined winner. Werther enjoyed a lovely run in the race in fourth position one out one back. He had every chance in the straight working home gamely to finish a never nearer third.
