New Annual Turnover Record For Tattersalls

The third day of the December Mare Sale took Tattersalls into unchartered territory when the day’s gross beat the previous annual turnover record set in 2014.

The third day saw a total of 184 lots realise 7,159,200 guineas at an average of 38,909 guineas and a median of 18,000 guineas.

With one day of the Tattersalls sales year to go, annual turnover now sits just below 265 million guineas, 1.5 million guineas more than the previous record.

The Juddmonte dispersal on the third day of the December Mare Sale proved to be a highlight with the regally-bred Makfi mare Replete topping proceedings at 775,000 guineas.

Australia’s Jon Freyer of Arrowfield Stud was among the bidders but it was Amanda Skiffington who ultimately secured the mare, a daughter of the champion European filly Banks Hill, winner of the G1 Breeders Cup Filly & Mare Turf, G1 Coronation Stakes and G1 Prix Jacques Le Marois.

She is also a sister to a stellar cast of G1 performers including Dansili, Intercontinental, Cacique, Champs Elysees and Deluxe.

Replete is a half-sister to G1 Prix Jean Romanet winner Romantica and the Listed winner Ideal World.

The sale of Replete represented a record price for a Juddmonte Farms consigned filly or mare at the Tattersalls December Mare Sale. The consignment realised a total of 2,657,500 guineas for the 33 lots sold.

The second top lot on the third day was the Listed winner Light Up Our World, knocked down to Luke Lillingston on behalf of Merriebelle Stable for 420,000 guineas.

The daughter of Zoffany, placed multiple times in Group company, is from the family of G1 Coronation Stakes winnwe Falen For You.

On Day 2 Hazariya, the dam of Derby winner Harzand, was purchased by Coolmore’s MV Magnier for 2 million guineas.

"We'll bring her home and she'll go to Galileo,”said Magnier who purchjased the mare on behalf of his parents, Michael Tabor, Derrick Smith and South Africa’s Mayfair Speculators.

Vendor Newsells Park Stud had bought the 14-year-old daughter of Xaar, also the dam of stakes winners Hazarafa and Harasiya and in foal to Invincible Spirit, for €480,000 at Goffs in 2014.

Newsells Park has a yearling filly from Hazariya by Fastnet Rock and a filly foal by Dansili.

The offering of Eblouissante, a half-sister to history-making mare Zenyatta drew a new visitor to Tattersalls in the shape of Jane Lyon, who owns a boutique band of broodmares in Kentucky that includes Littleprincessemma, the dam of American Pharoah.

Eblouissante is a seven-year-old by Bernardini and is also a half-sister to three-time G1 winner Balance as well as Breeders' Cup Classic heroine Zenyatta.

Lyon secured her for 1.1 milion guineas, the second time the mare has fetched a seven-figure price having been bought by St George Farm at Keeneland for $US2.1 million three years ago.

She has a colt foal by Oasis Dream on the ground.

Some 25,512,500gns was spent on 186 mares during the session, an eight per cent decrese from last year's total.

The average fell by 20 per cent year-on-year to 137,164gns and the median was down by 24 per cent to 60,000gns.
