Untapable Booked To Frankel In 2017

Champion US mare Untapable, winner of the 2014 Breeders' Cup Distaff, will be bred to UK champion Frankel in 2017.

Frankel, the unbeaten European Horse of the Year in 29011, has been selected as the first sire to cover Untapable according to David Fiske, manager for the mare’s owners Winchell Thoroughbreds.

Fiske said Untapable will be sent to The National Stud in Newmarket with the daughter of Tapit likely to remain in Europe for two seasons.

"I think it will probably be Frankel both years unless they take Arrogate over there and stand him,” Fiske said.

Fiske said owner Ron Winchell had gone against his concern that a Frankel foal would probably be a ‘turf horse'.

“That not our thing but if it's pretty it will be valuable and that is our thing,” he said.

“Who knows if it will be a turf horse or not? I don't think Frankel is getting a lot opportunities on dirt.

“There are so many North American horses in those pedigrees, who knows what he might throw."

Untapable is out of 2014 Broodmare of the Year Fun House and earned the 2014 Eclipse Award for champion 3YO filly following a campaign that saw her win six of seven starts including the G1 Kentucky Oaks, G1 Mother Goose Stakes and G1 Breeders Cup Distaff.

The 5YO was retired in June with nine wins from 20 starts and earnings of $3,926,625.
