2017 NZTBA Scholarship Winners

The New Zealand Thoroughbred Breeders’ Association has announced the recipients of their annual international scholarships for 2017.

Cambridge Stud’s Lance Forbes, 21, is one of the youngest recipients of the Sunline International Management Scholarship while Waikato Stud’s Cameron Ring is the 2017 Irish National Stud recipient.

Forbes is currently the yearling manager of Cambridge Stud, having previously worked for Ascot Farm and Arrowfield Stud in NSW.

He is the son of former trainer Graeme Forbes and brother of former jockey Alex Forbes.

Ring inherited his interest in thoroughbreds from his grandfather Bill, a former president of the Matamata Racing Club, while his greatgrandfather Calvin was a stalwart of the NZ industry.

Ring has previously worked at Hinuera Lodge and holds a Bachelor of Commerce degree with a major in rural valuation from Lincoln University, which he attended on a Future Leader’s scholarship.
