Pin And Win Partner Announcement

SecondBite is the new Pin & Win official charity partner for the 2013 Melbourne Cup Carnival and all money raised from the campaign will help feed Australians who are doing it tough.

A vast team of SecondBite volunteers will be out in force at all of the Melbourne Cup Carnival events selling the much sought after Pin & Win lapel pins that are “the” fashion accessory of the time honoured four day event.

In previous years charities have raised over $200,000 from the Pin & Win campaign and Elaine Montegriffo, CEO of SecondBite, said that they are aiming even higher so more hungry Australians will be able to enjoy fresh healthy meals.

“SecondBite is delighted to have been chosen as the official charity partner of this prestigious campaign that is such an integral part of the iconic Melbourne Cup Carnival.

“We want to raise $250,000 to enable SecondBite to collect and deliver an additional 625,000 hearty, nutritious meals to vulnerable Australians and their families who would otherwise go hungry,” she said.

VRC Chief Executive David Courtney said the Club was delighted to work with SecondBite.

“The VRC is extremely proud of Pin & Win, and each year we undertake a thorough process to appoint a truly worthy charity partner. SecondBite’s work in the community is both innovative and effective, and our partnership will ensure that even more Australians in need receive nutritious food,” Mr Courtney said.

For the past five years SecondBite has participated in the Flemington Green Fields program, helping to reduce waste from the Melbourne Cup Carnival, so racegoers should already be familiar with the SecondBite volunteers at the course.

“SecondBite is funded entirely through donations from the community so we hope that all racegoers will purchase a pin this year knowing they are helping to make a huge impact in the lives of vulnerable Australians,” said Ms Montegriffo.

Pin & Win lapel pins are available to purchase from October 1 until November 9, 2013. They will be available through volunteer pin sellers on each day of the Melbourne Cup Carnival, online and through the Flemington Shop from October.
