Tips and best bets Doomben Saturday May 20

Brisbane Best - May 20

A heavy track is expected to greet punters at Doomben on Saturday which features the Group 1 Doomben Cup (2000m) along with plenty of other competitive race

It’s Somewhat has come back in terrific order this campaign and will be looking for his fourth win in a row when lining up in the Doomben Cup.

Following up his resuming Ajax win with an all the way victory in the Group 1 Doncaster Mile, It’s Somewhat proved too strong again when edging out Single Gaze in the Group 2 Hollindale at the Gold Coast last start.

Likely to push forward again and take up the lead in this field, the step up to 2000m should not cause any problems and the six-year-old is proven on wet tracks, winning the Doncaster on a heavy 8.

Darren Beadman who has recently taken over the reigns at Godolphin has started very well in his short time and James Doyle returns to partner It’s Somewhat in the feature race of the day.

It’s Somewhat definitely comes into the race with the best form and the current price of $4.20 looks a good bet for what he has produced in recent times.

The race prior Kenedna Horseform looks well placed when she lines up in the Magic Millions Roses (2000m) off strong recent form in Adelaide.

The Darren Weir-trained runner put two wins together in Group and Listed company before running a narrow second to Egg Tart in the Group 1 Oaks at Morphettville over this trip.

Building a very impressive career record, Kenedna rates clear of her rivals on recent form and has a decent record on wet tracks previously.

The current price of $3.20 looks a good bet based on her recent form and if she runs up to her last start effort you would expect her to be too strong once again.

Has drawn well in barrier 4 and is likely to be in the second half of the field again but like always will be running on strongly and looks among one of the better bets of the day.

Good Luck!

Hardy Brothers Doomben Cup , 2000m
Race Synopsis: The Kris Lees-trained gelding Sense Of Occasion, winner of the Villiers Stakes (Gr 2, 1600m) at Randwick in December, has continued to race in really good form this preparation, following two placings in Group One class to take out his first win at that level here. He settled well back from his wide barrier (15), improved (deep) from the 600m and then came with a strong late run (wide out) to score comfortably at the post, yet again showing his liking for affected going. Former WA-trained Star Exhibit raced in sixth place, improved nicely (between runners) at the 600m, took the lead (wide out) at the 200m and then fought gamely for a very good second. Rudy raced in fourth place on the rails, was under riding nearing the home turn and responded to challenge at the 200m. He then kept fighting on well for a good third. Amelie’s Star was back in 11th place (on the rails), got along the inner (under riding) rounding the home turn to challenge at the 200m before battling on well for a sound (1.7 lengths) fourth. The favourite It’s Somewhat disappointed. He raced outside the leader (Auvray) until into the home straight before finishing (7.1 lengths) ninth.
