Melbourne Mail - September 9

It is Cox Plate preview day at the Valley but we are steering clear of the main race.

They may be in the news for many reasons at the moment but happy to think there will also be a Russian Revolution Horseform in Melbourne on Saturday.

The now four year old will have been set to thrust his name in front of The Everest hopefuls given he is a G1 winner already and from a stable who knows how to get one to peak.

Off two Sydney trials, the entire runs in a race of hot tempo and only needs to get the gaps to open at the right time. That speed should allow it to occur.

No dramas for him on any type of surface.

For the value we’ll stay with a very in form Lindsay Park yard and Foundation Horseform is ready to lift now.

At his most recent outing, he was so much more suited to this distance and when sent forward in the race, it took two good horses to get by him.

He’ll surely head forward again and meets many horses early in preparations.

Let’s take advantage of that circumstance and make them chase now.

R5 MOONEE VALLEY 9 September 2017
Mitty's McEwen Stakes , 1000m
Race Synopsis: The only Group One winner in a small but quality field, Russian Revolution was too good, winning his sixth from nine starts. From barrier four, he jumped best however rider Mark Zahra eased him slightly to settle a close second, one out, then allowed the leader (Heatherly) to draw out by a length at the 700m. With 300m to run, Zahra crept a little closer then pressured the leader once into the straight where they cruised alongside, put his head in front at the 100m then came away to win convincingly. Heatherly led soon after the start, was taken on as they straightened and while no chance with the winner, fought well for a solid second from Houtzen, the three-year-old filly, who was handy but three wide from the outset, seemed flat turning in yet found more in the straight for a good fresh-up third. Missrock was second last turning in, accelerated quite well between runners but faded just short of the line for fourth.
