Sydney Specials: Randwick – April 14

A stellar ten race card has been assembled for Day 2 of The Championships where there looks opportunity to build a bank early in the program.

Four Group 1’s greet punters at Randwick on Saturday spearheaded by the Queen Elizabeth Stakes where Winx will look to make it 25 straight wins in a row.

A lot of the races later on in the program are open affairs featuring capacity fields.

Early in the program however there looks an opportunity to build a bank for the afternoon.

Isaurian Horseform has a genuine sense of timing about him third up in the Listed South Pacific Classic (1400m).

The colt was a first up winner at Warwick Farm against the older horses before closing nicely into second behind I Am Excited in the Listed Darby Munro Stakes (1200m).

He will be fitter again third run from a spell and was finding the line like a rise to seven furlongs would suit.

The race as a whole appears short on depth with the only apparent danger Renewal Horseform who comes out of a Phar Lap Stakes which has proven white hot from a form perspective.

A capacity field contests the Provincial Championships Qualifier (1400m).

While Just Dreaming Horseform will take beating and is a deserved favourite, Princess Posh is a brilliant value play at double figures.

The daughter of Canford Cliffs was a first up winner of the Newcastle Provincial Qualifier (1400m) a fortnight ago.

It was a strong performance by the mare who will have taken plenty of benefit from the run in terms of fitness.

She is unbeaten in two prior second up outings and from barrier 5 with Damien Oliver in the saddle, should get a charmed run in transit.

It is also worth noting Kris Lees and Damien Oliver combined to win the 2016 Provincial Championships Final with Danish Twist Horseform.

South Pacific Classic 3 , 1400m
Race Synopsis: After winning twice in weaker grades at Newcastle, the Peter and Paul Snowden-trained three-year-old California Turbo advanced to record at stakes level here at his fourth race start. He was ridden patiently and settled back in seventh place, one off the rails, behind a good tempo. He tracked up well nearing the home turn, took the lead nearing the 100m and then fought back to score in a photo. Kerry Parker-trained Dark Dream settled near last in the nine-horse field, went deep at the home turn and came with a strong late finish for second, failing by only a short-half-head. Renewal went to the front but was pressured on two occasions before getting a break on turning for home. He then fought back well to take a very good third after a difficult trip in the lead. Torvill raced near the tail of the field, improved between runners on turning for home and finished well in restricted room for (1.6 lengths) fourth. The favourite Isaurian moved up early on to pressure the leader (Renewal), eased to third at the 600m, after failing to find the front, challenged again at the 200m and then held on for (1.9 lengths) fifth after working most of the race.
