Sydney Specials: Rosehill – May 20

A couple of last start winners can go on with the job late in the afternoon at Rosehill on Saturday.

The first of them is Bonny O’Reilly who contests the T J Smith Hall Of Fame Handicap (1200m).

The O’Reilly mare hit the ground running with a first up success at this course over 1100m against her own sex.

Bonny O’Reilly will strip fitter second up and is largely expected to continue her progression through the grades.

The mare is yet to put a foot wrong this preparation with her first up win preceded by a pair of strong trials in readiness.

Connections have lofty goals for her this campaign including next month’s Group 1 Stradbroke Handicap (1400m) at Eagle Farm.

For those goals to remain realistic, Bonny O’Reilly needs to dispatch of this field at Rosehill on Saturday.

In the prior event, the underrated So Willie Horseform will attempt to make it three wins from as many starts this prep contesting the Winx Hall Of Fame Benchmark 93 Handicap (1500m).

So Willie is flying this campaign, winning each of his two starts at Warwick Farm and Hawkesbury, both at juicy prices.

It is worth noting So Willie beat Stampede Horseform first up who has since gone on to win both the Wagga Cup and the Chairman’s Handicap.

Despite being fitter again third run from a spell, the son of More Than Ready again at this stage looks poised to go around at double figure odds.

The four-year-old is rising substantially in grade on what he has been contesting however in exchange gets good weight relief.

Furthermore, the prospect of rain and a soft track at Rosehill on Saturday will be no issue for So Willie who produced a host of strong runs on wet tracks last winter.
