Sydney Specials: Warwick Farm – Feb 9

Warwick Farm hosts the inaugural running of the Inglis Millennium meeting on Saturday.

The Inglis Millennium has the potential to reshape the autumn 2YO calendar with the $2million purse a massive dangling carrot early in the carnival.

Don’t be surprised to see it even become a target race for Inglis purchased two-year-olds with connections then running with the ‘whatever comes this autumn after the Millenium is a bonus’ angle.

The inaugural Inglis Millennium could boast one such juvenile in the form of Accession Horseform.

Accession has produced sharp improvement with each career outing to date and is a colt clearly heading in the right direction.

The son of Brazen Beau ran second to Athiri Horseform on debut who herself could take some beating in the Blue Diamond Fillies Prelude (1100m) at Caulfield on Saturday.

He has since moved out of her shadow with consecutive wins at Randwick and Rosehill, the latest over 1100m at Rosehill on January 19 was particularly impressive.

That latest success sees the Star Thoroughbreds-raced colt sitting well clear of his nearest rival who is current favourite Dawn Passage Horseform based on last start ratings.

It is shaping as something of a match race between the two colts however off last start ratings and with additional experience, Accession gets the nod.

Accession’s stablemate Matowi Horseform profiles as an excellent each way play in the final event on the card, the TAB Handicap Benchmark 78 Handicap (1600m).

The son of Ocean Park has improved with each run this campaign and last start won over 1550m at Canterbury.

He produced that success on a four day turnaround after a two length fifth behind Vegadaze Horseform who has since come out and won again.

Even form from his first up success appears strong with Schnapps Horseform and Plenty Horseform having since won.

Matowi showed good promise through his maiden prep earlier this season, holding his own against the likes of subsequent Spring Champion Stakes winner Maid Of Heaven Horseform and Stan Fox Stakes winner Tarka Horseform.

On Saturday, Matowi carries no weight and is drawn to get a cosy run on the fence.

The three-year-old should be somewhere around his peak fourth run from a spell and can continue his progression through the grades at an each way quote.

R7 WARWICK FARM 9 February 2019
Inglis Millennium - 2yo R.L. 2 , 1200m
Race Synopsis: A big win to go along with a big pay cheque, Castelvecchio is now unbeaten in two starts and put up a huge effort here. He drifted back to the rear from his wide draw and sat last to the 600m. Jockey Josh Parr scrubbed him up and he tacked onto the pack then went very wide from the 400m and was widest turning in. Parr got him balanced then he just kept coming at them, got to the lead at the 100m and ran clear for a big two length win in an impressive effort. Favourite Accession was well back and wide from the 800m, accelerated quickly from the 500m and although very wide into the straight was only a length off the lead. He took over at the 200m but was no match for the winner in the latter stages. Dawn Passage struck traffic from the 400m and didn't get clear running until inside the 150m and ran home well for third. Avon River also kept up a solid straight-long run for (4 lengths) fourth.
