2017 James Boag’s Premium Doomben Group 1 May 13 - Doomben

Redzel wins 2017 James Boag’s Premium Doomben Group 1 $700,000 at Doomben (QLD), 1200m.

Redzel Horseform took his record to seven wins from 17 starts in recording his first Group One success here. He showed his usual quick early pace to take the lead, was then pressured in front (with the first 600m in a fast 34.94). He then kept fighting back gamely when challenged again in the straight to score a very smart win, only his second at 1200m (his other wins being over shorter distances).

Counterattack Horseform raced in ninth place, between runners, went between runners at the home turn, going to fourth at the 200m. He then kept running on well to take a late-closing second.

Derryn Horseform settled back in the field, as expected, racing in second last place. He got a split at the 200m, got to second at the 100m and then fought well for a very good third.

The favourite Russian Revolution Horseform had a good run behind the leader (stablemate, Redzel), got into clear running on the inner at the 300m and momentarily looked dangerous before battling on for (2.8 lengths) fourth after seeming to have every chance.

In Her Time Horseform was a handy fourth (but wide) and did well in holding on for (3 lengths) fifth in a smart effort in this class.
