In a great result for the Darren Weir stable, that produced three of the first four past the post, success went to their Japanese-bred import Brave Smash Horseform. He was given a good trip by Craig Williams behind the leader (Showtime), was blocked on turning for home but got a split and dashed to the front at the 100m and then went on to win easily.

His stablemate Tosen Stardom Horseform raced in sixth place, one off the rails, moved up rounding the home turn, challenged at the 100m and then fought on well for a good second in a promising effort at his second start this preparation.

Team Hawkes-trained colt Showtime Horseform went to the front, set quite a good tempo, was only headed at the 100m and then held on really well for a close-up third while Humidor Horseform was near last to the home turn and caught the eye making late ground for (3 lengths) fourth at his first run since the Melbourne Cup (Gr 1, 3200m) in November.
