A veteran of only six starts and giving jockey Dean Holland his second victory in the race Surprise Baby Horseform came from a better than midfield position with a late charge over the concluding stages.

The winning combination of the Group 1 Newmarket Handicap Tony McEvoy and Barend Vorster were quick off the mark when Despatch won the 1050 metre opening race at Morphettville on Monday.


Racing first up from a spell and trialling well Despatch settled in a forward position and went on to take the race in fine style.

History repeated itself when Lieder won its second race on Adelaide Cup Day twelve months apart in the 2004 metre second race.

Having the services of apprentice Chris Caserta the Michael Hickmott prepared Lieder settled in a rearward position before coming with a strong run over the concluding stages to win.

Messerschmitt brought up the second win for trainer Anthony Freedman in the 1200 metre third race.

Guided to victory by James Winks Messerschmitt came from well back with a strong run over the concluding stages.

Apprentice Kayla Crowther recorded one of the biggest wins in her short career when she rode Done By Me to victory in the Magic Millions 2yo Classic which was run over 1200 metres.

Mentored by SA/Victorian master trainer Phillip Stokes, Done By Me came from a worse than midfield position with a strong run down the centre of the straight.

Naracoorte trainer Sue Jaensch kept up her goo strike rate when she trained Pretty glass to a win in the 1200 metre fifth race.

Guided to victory by Dean Yendall Pretty glass made it five wins from nine starts when she came from a midfield position to win.

Trainer Chris Waller landed one of his rare Adelaide wins when his charge Mantastic took out the 1600 metre sixth race.

Ridden by Sydney jockey Corey Brown Mantastic came from the rear of the field with a strong run late in the event to win.

Trainer Phillip Stokes landed his second winner for the day when Snitzkraft won the listed Matrice Stakes which was run over 1200 metres.

Having the services of versatile hoop John Allen Snitzkraft came from a better than midfield position to win narrowly.

The training combination of Trent Busuttin and Natalie Young were well pleased with the win of Maracaibo in the 1600 metre final event.

Guided to victory by Stephen Baster Maracaibo was another winner to came from a midfield position.
