Morphettville Races Review - 12th May

Master trainer Darren Weir began where he left off last week on the second day of the Adelaide Festival of Racing when his charge Camdus won the opening race of 1200 metres at Morphettville on Saturday.

Continuing the good riding skills of Damian Lane Camdus Horseform came from the rear of the field with a strong run in the straight to win.

After winning a Horsham maiden at his previous start I Am someone continued the good training form of Paul Preusker when he took out the 1050 metre second race.

Guided to victory by Declan Bates I Am Someone was well placed in bringing up consecutive wins.

After having a great day at Balaklava last Wednesday where he had five winners from five starters Tony McEvoy continued his good run when Manuel took out the final of the Autumn Series which was run over 1400 metres on the Parks Track.

Ridden by Melbourne hoop Luke Currie Manuel was well back in the early stages but came into the race soon after the field swung for home going on to provide McEvoy with the first leg of a quinella with his other charge Set To Sparkle running second.

Trainer Leon Macdonald picked up his sixth SA Sires’ Produce Stakes and his second with son in law Andrew Gluyas when Tequila Time scored his fourth consecutive win in the 1400 metres Sires’ Produce Stakes.

Giving Clare Lindop what may well be her last feature race winner Tequila Time was well placed and will now go for a spell.

Trainer Darren Weir landed the second leg of a double when Peaceful State won the listed Adelaide Guineas which was run over 1600 metres.

Piloted to victory by versatile jockey John Allen Peaceful State came from a worse than midfield position with a strong run over the concluding stages.

After running a solid third at Flemington seven days ago Bertwhistle proved to be up to the task when she won the 1800 metre Provincial Super Series final.

Prepared at Telopea Downs by Darryl Dodson and ridden by apprentice Alfred Chan Bertwhistle came from the rear of the field with a strong middle of the course run to bring up her sixth win from fourteen starts.

The happy hunting ground of Morphettville gave master trainer Darren Weir his third consecutive SA Derby when Leicester won his second Adelaide race in a fortnight.

Having the services of Damian Lane Leicester, who was a good winner of the Chariman’s Stakes a fortnight ago was well placed throughout SA’s premier three-year-old event.

Jockey Anna Jordsjo probably landed the biggest win of her career when she guided Tildy Lad to a win in the 1100 metre SA Sprint Series final.

Prepared at Naracoorte by Jeffery Searle Tildy Lad came from a midfield position with a strong run over the concluding stages.
