Goulburn Race Preview Monday June 5

There is something about an unbeaten record that attracts public attention and in the case of My Maher it’s no different.

The three-year-old is unbeaten in three starts and looks well place d again in the Goulburn Express Freight Class 3 (1000m) on Monday.

While the spotlight has been on Egg Tart winning her last six including the Queensland Oaks and Bonny O’Reilly her last five, My Maher Horseform is building her own record that her connections and trainer Matthew Smith are understandably proud of.

“It’s the first time I have had a horse when its first three starts,” Smith said.

My Maher hasn’t raced since Nowra on April 16 and won a trial at Warwick Farm late last month which proved to Smith she was ready to go again.

She won her debut at Scone in November before resuming with another win at the Albury Cup carnival in March then went three weeks before racing and winning again.

Her winning record has been un matched by any horse Smith has previously trained and he hopes it can continue.

“It’s hard to keep winning as you step up in grade but she has done a good job so far,” he said.

“She tries hard and has all the makings of a nice horse.”

My Maher, a daughter of Al Maher, was bred by Mick Terry of Young who shares in the ownership of the filly with several others.

Already with bank earnings of $36,000, My Maher only faces five rivals and will jump from gate four.

Jockey Jay Ford will be on board after riding her in two of her victories.

My Maher has been well placed by her trainer to remain unbeaten and if she wins again will step up to midweek metropolitan grade.

“She will step up to 1100 or 1200 metres next start in town if she wins,” Smith said.

Of his five runners at Goulburn, Smith naturally rates My Maher as his best chance.

He will also be represented by debutant Platinum Pulse, Mulu Magic, My Wolverine and Black Platinum.

While, My Maher has a form line of 1-1-1 it’s been a different sequence for Common Purpose who will start in the Anns Wedding & Function Decorating 3yo Maiden (1300m).

Common Purpose has only raced three times for as many seconds and is busting to break through for Goulburn trainer John Bateman.
