Growing Success For Chinese Apprentice

Chinese apprentice Qin Yong has the opportunity to break through for his first provincial win at Hawkesbury on Thursday.

Local trainer Joan Pracey has booked him for King’s Tariff, who is set to perform well first-up from a spell in the Irresistible Pools & Spas BM 65 (1000m).

Pracey’s gelding is a first-up winner and has also been placed on four occasions when resuming.

Qin Yong, apprenticed to Hawkesbury trainer Brad Widdup, has been in impressive form on country tracks.

He earned high praise from country trainer Clint Lundholm after producing a superb winning ride at Wellington on Tuesday when he notched his seventh Australian win.

Tuesday’s win came hot on the heels of his first Australian double at Mudgee last Saturday.

The Chinese-born 28-year-old scored for Lundholm on Tuesday aboard Fire Flight over 1400m.

“This kid is something special; he can really ride,” Dubbo-based Lundholm said.

“He rode to instructions, and got the win.”

Fire Flight was the popular young rider’s second winner for Lundholm, having also scored on Joey’s Destiny for him at Dubbo earlier this month.

Fire Flight, a well-bred Northern Meteor four-year-old, has now won three of her last four starts since owner Paul Frampton sent her to Dubbo as a maiden to join Lundholm’s team.

Fire Flight shed her maiden status at Dubbo in March and then scored again at the annual Merriwa meeting last month.

Qin Yong’s Australian career has blossomed under the guidance of Widdup.

“Gerry”, as he is nicknamed, broke through for his first local win on Azzie’s Ready at the Wellington Boot meeting in April.

He has since ridden winners at Canberra, Dubbo, Gunnedah, Mudgee and Wellington.
