Half Century For Hawkesbury Trainers

Hawkesbury trainers have racked up a half century of winners in just over the first three months of the current season.

Garry White, the leading local trainer at Hawkesbury meetings last season, took the tally to 50 when Paris In May Horseform scored at Orange last Friday.

Scott Singleton made it 51 when his promising mare Stock Up Horseform was successful at Newcastle on Saturday.

Hawkesbury trainers prepared 10 winners in August, 17 in September, 20 in October and this month’s tally already stands at four.

White made it seven wins so far this season when lightly-raced Paris In May gave his backers no cause for concern with an easy victory at short odds in the Maiden Plate (1000m) at Orange.

He was having only his third start and tackling country rivals after two provincial fifths at his home track.

A beautifully-bred Hobartville Stud four-year-old by Duporth, the gelding is out of the Danehill mare Danebeam, a daughter of multiple G1 winning mare Slight Chance.

Singleton lifted his 2018-19 tally to six when Stock Up made it two wins from as many starts this preparation, comfortably disposing of her Class 1 rivals at Newcastle.

Given a perfect ride by Shaun Guymer, Stock Up again gave an indication of better things to come when she put the issue beyond doubt early in the straight and beat Mandalong Emperor and Donald Krupt.

“It was a very easy watch,” Singleton said. “Stock Up needed a bit of time, and has come back a stronger mare this preparation.”

When resuming on her home track on October 25, she broke through in a 1300m Maiden Handicap for four-year-olds and upwards.

Singleton purchased two horses at the 2016 Karaka Select yearling sale for bargain prices and Stock Up is one of them.

A daughter of Tavistock, she fetched $15,000. Stock Up has now raced nine times and the Newcastle victory boosted her earnings to $63,580.

In one of her placings last season when second at Rosehill in April the subsequent Queensland Oaks winner and Melbourne Cup sixth Youngstar finished third.
