Co-trainer Paul Jones says Just A Blur was unlucky at her second-up run in the David Wallace City Handicap 1175m on the heavy track at Albury — a surface she doesn’t enjoy.

“We are keeping her to shorter trips this campaign and she is likely to have her Town-Plate lead-up run in Sydney on Saturday week, where there are three or for options for her,” Jones says.

“Horses will be going in all directions and we will pick the eyes out of them and hopefully the track will be drier by then.”

“She is progressing as we would like and worked very well at Canberra this morning (Tuesday).”

Just A Blur will be joined in Wagga by the enigmatic Mercurial Lad, who last week got his racing ticket restored after winning an Open trial at the Sapphire Coast by a space.

Mercurial Lad has won his last two — including first-up at Wagga — but has been running off the track.

Jones says the Pendragon 3yo is “high quality” and will be next seen in a Highway Handicap in Sydney also on Saturday week.

“He got a one-eyed blinker and pacifiers applied for the Sapphire Coast trial and they settled him down.

“He’s a horse I think we will be talking a lot about next year.”

Joseph-Jones unveiled a promising 2yr old at Wagga on Sunday — Tyres Are Crucial.

The Pendragon gelding easily accounted for an Open 2 field and is headed for the Inglis 2YO Classic race at Wagga.

Jones says the stable’s Hong Kong import Overdane has had a good break and will race at the Darwin winter carnival.

“He has a liking for synthetic tracks and we expect the sand/oil surface to suit him.”
