More Wins For Chinese Apprentice

Chinese apprentice Qin Yong made it two wins in as many days at Gunnedah on Monday.

Successful at Dubbo on Sunday on Joey’s Destiny, Qin Yong (nicknamed Gerry) scored on Perfect Times in the Maiden Handicap (1400m).

Switching back to the inside after straightening, the 28-year-old got the four-year-old mare home for his fourth Australian winner.

Perfect Times Horseform is trained at Quirindi by Peter Mills, who provided the Chinese rider with an Aussie breakthrough on Azzie’s Ready at the Wellington Boot meeting last month.

“Gerry is working really hard, and it’s great to see him getting the rewards,” said trainer Brad Widdup, his master at Hawkesburey.

“He had a good base before coming to Australia, and is gaining more experience on these country tracks.

“Gerry learnt English at home, and being around him every day, I can understand him without any problems.

“He is a terrific young chap who is willing to listen and learn.

“For a rider of his experience the 4kg country claim is a real bonus and it’s good to see him getting more opportunities.”
