The Barbara Joseph-Paul Jones stable have made a flying start to the new Canberra racing season.

They recorded a double on the Acton last Friday following a double at the season opener the fortnight before.

Former Kiwi — Almost Court — made it a hat-trick when he spaced the field winning the Laminex Benchmark 67 over 1900m.

Almost Court (by Alamosa) was purchased in New Zealand with the former owner/trainer Brian Court retaining a percentage.

Joseph-Jones see him as a progressive stayer clearly suited by dry tracks and he’s likely to race next at Warwick Farm on Wednesday-week over 2200m.

In the Benchmark Kitchens and Joinery Maiden over 1080m, Damagic showed his true potential recording a dominant win.

Damagic had been running out in his races, but Joseph-Jones put the one-sided blinkers on for Friday’s event and he raced tractably off the better draw.

The stable still see the Magic Albert gelding as a work in progress and he will race locally in the meantime

The Keith Dryden- Scott Collings stable also trained a double at last Friday’s meeting with Honour The One winning the Wardrobe World Maiden over 1280m and Rock Prodigy saluting in the Capital Veneering BM 55 over the same trip.

Promising apprentice Patrick Scorse has made an impact early in the new season booting home four winners on the Acton from seven rides for a strike rate of 57%.
