Queanbeyan Race Preview Nov 26

Hometown trainer Joe Cleary looks set for a big day out at Queanbeyan on Saturday but identifying just which one of his horses will be successful is the big question.

Cleary will saddle up five of his team for the Defence Force Cup meeting where he will be represented by recent Queanbeyan Cup runner-up Uncle Gerry in the feature race.

The trainer also has Moss Fever who will start a short priced favourite in the Class 3 (1000m) while he will also run recent stable addition Rosaruby, Sunbite and Lasting Shadow.

Sunbite’s task has been made a little easier by the withdrawal of stable mate The Nickster who won easily at Gundagai two weeks ago.

Sunbite won her s first race at her sixth start at Bombala two starts ago and has found another suitable task.

Cleary’s stable apprentice Jason Devrimol will ride all of his runners except for Uncle Gerry who will be ridden by Simon Miller.

Cleary is hoping what looks a winning day on paper pans out the same way.

“We look to have some nice chances and Uncle Gerry and Moss Fever look the pick of mine,’ Cleary said.

Uncle Gerry is expected to again lead and how he performs will indicate to his trainer whether to push on or send him for a spell.

“It’s a 2000 metre race on his home track which looks perfect for him,” Cleary said.

Talented galloper Moss Fever Horseform looks the pick of Cleary’s runners with Devrimol’s claim reducing the galloper’s weight to 57.5 kilograms.

On her track work alone, Cleary expects Rosaruby to perform better than her first-up last in a Highway Handicap at Rosehill on November 12.

Her previous runs included a second at Rosehill and a win at Kembla Grange when she was trained by Colbey Hill who will saddle up Magic Franco in the same race.

“She needs to improve on her first run for me but her work has been outstanding in the last seven days,” Cleary enthused.
