Breeders' Cup Sprint runner-up Fatal Bullet has been named Canada's Hose of the Year at the annual Sovereign Awards held in Toronto.

Breeders' Cup Sprint runner-up Fatal Bullet has been named Canada's Hose of the Year at the annual Sovereign Awards held in Toronto.

The 3YO Fatal Bullet won six of his eight starts in 2008 for trainer Reade Baker, rising from a claiming race win to win a Group 3 race at Turfway Park in Kentucky and a Group One placing in the BC Sprint.

He earned 177 votes and beat Ginger Brew and Not Bourbon for the title.


Rahy's Attorney and the 2007 Canadian Horse of the Year Sealy Hill also polled votes.

Ginger Brew was honoured as champion three-year-old filly and male honors went to Not Brewing.

Marchfield was named champion older male and Bear Now was the champion older female.

Rahy's Attorney was champion turf male and Callwood Dancer champion turf female.

The leading juveniles were Mine That Bird (colt) and Van Lear Rose (filly).

The 16-year-old mare Kathie's Colleen was named champion broodmare, her progeny including 2003 Horse of the Year Wando and stakes winners Six Sexy Sisters and Half Sister.

Patrick Husbands won his sixth Sovereign Award as outstanding jockey and Janine Stianson was the outstanding apprentice.

Casse won his third straight Sovereign Award as champion trainer and Adena Springs took the breeder award for the fourth time.
