Stratum Star Horseform, to be ridden on Saturday by Damian Lane, has been in Perth for two weeks after Weir abandoned plans to target the Magic Millions meeting at the Gold Coast in January.

Perth became the priority after Weir found the Magic Millions Cup, Stratum Star’s target race at the Gold Coast, had been extended from 1800m to 2200m.

“He is a Magic Millions horse but they changed the 1800 metre race to 2200 metres so that was off the radar,” said Weir’s racing manager Jeremy Rogers.

Stratum Star was flown to Perth after he finished third in the Sandown Stakes on November 12 and has since had a 1000m barrier trial at Lark Hill on November 21.

He was ridden by Damian Lane in the trial and ran home strongly from back in the field to finish second.

Rogers said the Kingston Town Classic was a winnable race for Stratum Star.

“He ran well at Sandown and has pleased us with his progress in Perth,” Rogers said.

“He’s probably not quite as good as he was at one stage but we still think he’ll be competitive.”

While the barrier draw favoured Stratum Star it has played against last start Railway Stakes winner Scales Of Justice Horseform.

He will be tested to complete the G1 double at the Ascot carnival after he drew the outside gate in the big field of 16.

Other leading chances to fare well with good barriers were local star Perfect Reflection Horseform (2), the New Zealander Kawi Horseform (4) and the Chris Waller stablemates Good Project Horseform (5) and Vanbrugh Horseform (7).

Waller’s third runner Mackintosh Horseform drew gate 10.
