2017 CAULFIELD GUINEAS – RACE ANALYSIS AND TIPS

Big pressure on here. Stablemates The Mission and Perast press forward and Showtime should kick up from the inside barrier. Sircconi, Summer Passage and Gold Standard will be looking to get handy and add pressure.

KEMENTARI is on an upward spiral and thinking that he can peak here and make himself very hard to beat. Sound effort in the Guineas Prelude and think that he can turn the tables on the two that finished in front of him there with the tempo today expected to be much hotter than it was over the 1400m two weeks ago.

That is going to play into the hands of ROYAL SYMPHONY through the same race. He was beaten in the sit and sprint but he has form over the mile and we know that he will be strong late. Set for this and should be at his top.

GOLD STANDARD ran a brave race in the Golden Rose after winning the Stan Fox which has been a top guide to this in recent years. Summer Passage next best.

Race Synopsis: In a race that has a reputation for producing a surprise winner, the $101 chance Mighty Boss, the emergency runner who luckily gained a start, ran on to take out the Group One event. He settled back in 12th place, behind a strong pace (first 1000m in 58.66), stuck to the rails at the home turn and continued to get through on the inner to challenge at the 200m. He hit the front at the 50m and finished a bit too well to score nicely, his second win in six starts. Godolphin’s colt Kementari raced in seventh place (one off the rails), moved up (wide out) at the home turn and looked the winner when he went to the front at the 200m (despite racing a bit greenly), but he could not hold off the late closing winner, then fighting on for second, beaten a neck. The lone filly in the field and favourite, Catchy, settled in eighth place, switched between runners on straightening, challenged at the 100m and fought on well for third. Royal Symphony settled in 11th place, was under riding nearing the home turn, improved to be about sixth at the 100m and kept making late ground for (2.3 lengths) fourth.
