2017 DOOMBEN CUP: TIPS AND RACE PREVIEW

It's Somewhat has led in his last two outings and looks the most likely to take it up again today with Single Gaze on speed.

IT'S SOMEWHAT Horseform has won all three races this campaign including the Group 1 Doncaster Mile at Randwick two starts back.

Proved too strong in the G2 Hollindale last start over 1800m and up to the 2000m should suit.

ARTICUS Horseform had no luck when resuming at Caulfield before going on to win at Flemington last time out. Proven at the 2000m and should run well.

SINGLE GAZE Horseform next best off strong recent form.

Hardy Brothers Doomben Cup , 2000m
Race Synopsis: The Kris Lees-trained gelding Sense Of Occasion, winner of the Villiers Stakes (Gr 2, 1600m) at Randwick in December, has continued to race in really good form this preparation, following two placings in Group One class to take out his first win at that level here. He settled well back from his wide barrier (15), improved (deep) from the 600m and then came with a strong late run (wide out) to score comfortably at the post, yet again showing his liking for affected going. Former WA-trained Star Exhibit raced in sixth place, improved nicely (between runners) at the 600m, took the lead (wide out) at the 200m and then fought gamely for a very good second. Rudy raced in fourth place on the rails, was under riding nearing the home turn and responded to challenge at the 200m. He then kept fighting on well for a good third. Amelie’s Star was back in 11th place (on the rails), got along the inner (under riding) rounding the home turn to challenge at the 200m before battling on well for a sound (1.7 lengths) fourth. The favourite It’s Somewhat disappointed. He raced outside the leader (Auvray) until into the home straight before finishing (7.1 lengths) ninth.
