2017 THOUSAND GUINEAS – RACE ANALYSIS AND TIPS

Speed crosses from out wide with Leather'N'Lace and Booker expected to roll over and contest the early lead at a controlled tempo.

ALIZEE might need some luck getting clear, settling back in the field from the low draw, but there's only eight going to post here and she should get the room that she needs to assert herself at the right time. She has the form to win this courtesy of her win in the Flight Stakes at Randwick last time and this looks no tougher test for her.

SHOALS shapes as the best of the local hopes. Booker held her at bay in the Prelude but the tables can be turned up to the mile now and back to level weights.

LEATHER'N'LACE was soft late last week but backs up quickly off that mile run and could be a tough nut to crack from on the speed now.

Schweppes Thousand Guineas 3F , 1600m
Race Synopsis: New Zealand-bred filly Aloisia, who was an unlucky second in the J J Atkins Stakes (Gr 1, 1600m) at Doomben in June, broke through for a decisive Group One victory here. She travelled nicely in fifth place on the rails, Luke Nolen got her through on the inner at the 300m and she hit the front at the 100m before going on for a strong win, running the 1600m out well. Shoals enjoyed a good trip in third place on the rails. She got an inside run rounding the home turn, took the lead shortly afterwards and then kept fighting back well before tiring in the latter stages for second after seeming to have had every chance. The favourite Alizee was a bit keen early on and then settled in sixth place, one of the rails. She improved rounding the home turn, got to fourth at the 200m and briefly looked a threat. But just kept fighting from that point to take third, performing below the form she showed in winning the Flight Stakes (Gr 1 1600m) at Randwick at her prior start on 30 September suggesting that she may have reached the end of her preparation. She’s So High was a handy fourth, moved up nicely at the home turn and then battled on quite well for (5.75 lengths) fourth.
