2017 TOORAK HANDICAP – RACE ANALYSIS AND TIPS

Theanswermyfriend crosses Kaspersky with I Am A Star working across from wider out. Big field but think the leaders will get there comfortably enough.

Looks a good scenario for THEANSWERMYFRIEND. Got carved up last time in the Rupert Clarke but battled away well and looks to get control of this race a lot more comfortably this time. Given the right run the mile should pose no concerns - in fact it may be just what he wants at this point.

MR SNEAKY's form all ties in with Theanswermyfriend and his effort in the Rupert Clarke was a cracker. Think he can get the mile without too much trouble as well. Certainly bred to stay as far.

KASPERSKY gets the right run on the map and best form in the UK is very competitive here. Not too far away from smart horses this season.

Tom Melbourne is racing really well but the draw makes things tricky. Egg Tart has upside but 35 days between runs after a setback makes it tough.

United Petroleum Toorak Hcp , 1600m
Race Synopsis: The Japanese-bred import Tosen Stardom who was having his fourth run this preparation and his seventh start for the Darren Weir stable, broke through for his first Group One win, staging a good effort in doing so, here. He settled back in 14th place from his wide barrier (16) behind a strong pace (first 1000m in 59.76), improved (wide with cover) from the 600m, went widest of all at the home turn, took the lead at the 100m and then went on to win impressively under his top weight (57.5kg). Sovereign Nation raced in third last place in the 18-horse field, improved (between runners) at the home turn, switched out at the 200m and then ran on nicely for second. The $101 outsider Petrology also settled back in the field. He was second last at the home turn, went very deep on straightening and ran on surprising well to take the minor placing. The Hugo Palmer-trained Mask Of Time was a handy fourth on the rails, from his good barrier (one) and kept fighting on in the straight to hold (2.2 lengths) fourth in a sound Australian debut.
