2018 AURIE’S STAR HANDICAP – RACE ANALYSIS AND TIPS

Pace is interesting here. I Am A Star is off a long break but is a natural rolling horse. Home Of The Brave has speed but has trialled as though he will be held up. Ability was handy last time but it hardly worked for him. Chamois Road is fit and may want to force it.

BRAVE SONG won well here last time. Had to knuckle down to get there but good enough to overcome a steady pace and he may face a similar scenario here. Improving horse with some good form in the book.

VOODOO LAD is flying and has the closing speed to rattle on over the top of these if it does unfold into a late dash for home. Two runs back in Melbourne have been crackers.

HOME OF THE BRAVE has trialled up well. Little doubt that he is up to winning at this level based on his sharp overseas form. Rich Charm and I Am A Star have to be respected on their best form.

Aurie's Star , 1200m
Race Synopsis: Voodoo Lad, twice runner-up at Group One level, recorded a good win here, his fourth in Group Three class. He settled nicely for Damien Oliver, tracking not far from the leaders, albeit in last place in the small seven-horse field. He switched closer to the rails side and improved from the 400m, challenged at the 200m and finished too well to score quite impressively. Well performed UK-import Home Of The Brave, resuming for new trainer James Cummings, went to the front and set a solid tempo from the mid-stages. He held a clear advantage at the 400m and then fought back really well when challenged for (0.8 lengths) second in a bold effort at his first Australian start. Brave Song raced in second last place, sprinted smartly from the 300m, got to third at the 200m and battled gamely for a promising third at his first run this season. Group One-winning mare I Am A Star raced in fourth place most of the way and held on nicely for a good (4.6 lengths) fourth in a sound return. Chamois Road was third to the 200m and battled on quite well for (4.7 lengths) fifth while Lindsay Park-trained import Poetic Dream raced outside the leader and eventual winner but was under pressure from the 400m before finishing (6.5 lengths) sixth at his first start since March.
