Black Caviar Lightning , 1000m
Race Synopsis: Lightly raced seven-year-old gelding Redkirk Warrior, last year’s Newmarket Handicap (Gr 1, 1200m) winner has developed an affinity for the straight course at Flemington, staging a late-closing win here, his seventh win in 16 starts and his third at this track. He was ridden quietly as usual and remained in last place in the ten-horse field before switching deeper and into clear running at the 300m. He then sprinted quickly to grab a last-stride win, in an impressive performance. The $1.80 favourite Redzel raced in fourth place, close to the pace, before going to the front at the 200m. He was then caught right on the post for (short head) second, his first defeat in his latest seven starts. Missrock raced just behind the leading ground in about seventh place. She went through to third nearing the 100m and did well in fighting on to hold that position to the post. Supido was back in second last place, in the centre of the track, and ran on well to take (1.6 lengths) fourth in a very good first up effort while Rock Magic held on well for (1.8 lengths) fifth.
