2018 CAULFIELD STAKES – RACE ANALYSIS AND TIPS

Homesman presses on and think they will look to be positive with Sedanzer. Benbatl has the pace to be right there from barrier one.

UNFORGOTTEN was terrific in the Epsom last time. Month between runs there and stayed on at the finish as though looking for further now. Gets to 2000m and think that she can explode. Great talent.

BENBATL is a big danger coming over for Godolphin. Dominant Group 1 winner in Dubai earlier in the season and has since won at the highest level in Germany.

HUMIDOR draws away from the fence. In the finish if he didn't have to wait on a run from a low draw last time. He's going well and gets to his trip now. Respect Tosen Basil and Homesman through the same race.

Race Synopsis: In a great result for Godolphin where two of the best performers fought out an exciting finish, Benbatl showed his quality if scoring his third Group 1 success at his Australian debut. He began well, settled in second place, got to the front at the 200m and then dug deep to score a narrow but most impressive win. Blair House, having his second start in this country, settled in fifth place, on the rails, went to third on straightening, challenged at the 200m and the battled strongly for a very good (half head) second. Humidor raced back in ninth place, improved (between runners) at the home turn and kept running on well to take third in a photo. The Cliffsofmoher raced in last place to the home turn and caught the eye with his late-closing (2.6 lengths) fourth in a very promising effort at his first Australian start. D'Argento raced in second last place in the 11-horse field, went wide on straightening and kept running on well for (2.7 lengths) fifth. Night's Watch did well in fighting on for (3.5 lengths) sixth. Homesman worked to lead and then set a good pace from the mid-stages before tiring late for seventh while Unforgotten made good late ground for (3.9 lengths) eighth.
