Chandon S Phar Lap Stakes 3 , 1500m
Race Synopsis: Chris Waller-trained filly Unforgotten staged an impressive performance, staking strong claims for the upcoming ATC Australian Oaks (Gr 1, 2400m) in the process. She travelled in last place in the ten-horse field, behind a good tempo, before going widest of all from the 300m. She then produced a brilliant late bid to score by a short head, going away, looking suited to further. The well-supported Mick Price-trained colt Holy Snow was ridden quietly from barrier nine and settled back in eighth place (with cover), travelling well behind a good tempo. He improved well (wide) from the 600m, raced to the front nearing the 100m, looking the likely winner, but he could not hold off the late closing winner to take a very good second at his first start outside of Victoria. His stablemate, the filly Hiyaam worked in the early stages from her wide draw (10) before crossing to race outside the leader (Shumookh). She put pressure on that runner, approaching the 600m, looked beaten at the 300m but responded to riding and ran on well again for third and should appreciate further. Like the winner, she also now looks headed to the ATC Australian Oaks. Renewal raced in fourth place, one off the rails, put in a bid halfway down the straight and battled on quite well for (3.2 lengths) fourth. The favourite Shumookh showed her customary pace to lead, was pressured in the mid-stages, grabbed a break on turning for home but tired over the closing stages after her early efforts for (3.4 lengths) fifth.
