Hugh Bowman will be a new rider for the talented sprinter when he makes his second appearance for the Lees stable in the $150,000 Listed sprint over 1300m.

Clearly Innocent Horseform was under the care of recently retired trainer Greg Bennett and had apprentice Sam Clenton in the saddle when he beat subsequent Doomben Ten Thousand winner Music Magnate Horseform in last year’s Luskin Star.

It was his fifth victory from as many starts on his former home track.

At his first start for Lees, Clearly Innocent finished ninth to stablemate Felines in the Hawkesbury Rush (1100m) on April 29 but it was a much better performance than it may appear on paper.

Clearly Innocent was forced to race wide throughout from an awkward draw, yet still finished off with purpose and was beaten only 2.5 lengths.

A slow first half saw the race become a fast sprint over the last 600m. The last 600m was run in just under 33 seconds and made it hard for the horses in the back half of the field to figure in the finish.

“He has come on well since Hawkesbury, and obviously his Scone form is impeccable,” Lees said. “I’m looking forward to taking him back to the races on Saturday.”

Clearly Innocent carried 54kg in last year’s Luskin Star and jumps to 57.5kg on Saturday.

Whilst Bowman rides Clearly Innocent he won’t be aboard his recent winner Felines in the $150,000 Listed Ortensia Stakes (1100m) on Saturday.

Glyn Schofield has the mount after Bowman rode her to victory in the Hawkesbury Rush over 1100m on April 29.

“I wasn’t really sure earlier I was going to run her at Scone,” Lees explained over the switch of rider.

“There’s no reason why she won’t race well again, especially from a nice draw.”

Felines has won nine of her 28 starts, and first or second placing will lift her earnings beyond $500,000.

Yarraman Park Luskin Star Stks , 1300m
Race Synopsis: Clearly Innocent, who was having his second run for the Kris Lees stable was quite impressive in winning here at his second run this preparation. He was settled nicely in seventh place on the rails by Hugh Bowman, behind a good pace (set by the free-running Sweet Serendipity). He got through to fourth on straightening, dashed to the front at the 150m and then went on to win easily. Snoopy raced back in fourth place, went to second at the 150m and battled on well to hold that position to the post. Gold Symphony was a distant seventh at the 600m and made good ground over the latter stages to take the minor placing, putting up a sound effort.
