Godolphin Plans For Sandown And Perth

Leading spring carnival jockey Damian Lane is set to continue his partnership with the James Cummings-trained Beau Geste in Saturday’s G2 Sandown Guineas.

Lane had his first ride on Beau Geste Horseform when the three-year-old colt finished a close-up fourth in the G3 Carbine Club Stakes (1600m) at Flemington on November 4.

Lane won the prestigious Ron Hutchinson Excellence Award from the VRC for his riding form over Melbourne Cup week at Flemington that ended with a G1 win on Tosen Stardom in Saturday’s Emirates Stakes.

Godolphin will have a strong hand at Sandown on Saturday with Cummings set to produce the classy sprinter Chetwood Horseform first-up in the G3 Kevin Heffernan Stakes (1300m).

Chetwood is already a G3 winner but hasn’t raced since he finished ninth in the G3 Newcastle Newmarket (1400m) in March.

However he has been in brilliant form in recent Sydney trials, winning his latest hitout by 12 lengths at Randwick last week.

Cummings has booked the in-form Stephen Baster to ride Chetwood.
