Nature Strip Horseform will be transferred to Robert Hickmott on Monday when his current trainer Robert Smerdon stands down.

Smerdon is at the centre of Racing Victoria’s inquiry into race day treatments and is facing up to 100 charges dating back to 2010.

Smerdon has trained several winners in the last week including Nature Strip at Sandown last Wednesday and Al Dorama Horseform at Flemington on Saturday.

Nature Strip was tabbed as a potential Group One horse after the three-year-old careered to an effortless 5.5 lengths win over 1000m in fast time for his third win four starts.

He is scheduled to have his next start over 1100m at Flemington next Saturday under Hickmott’s care.

However Nature Strip’s owner Rod Lyons has confirmed that the Nicconi gelding will join Sadler’s team when he completes his current suspension in three weeks.

Sadler is midway through a six weeks ban imposed after he clashed with RV chief steward Terry Bailey after officials ordered the race day scratching of one of his horses after they suspected treatment that infringed the rules.

Lyons said the transfer to Sadler would be seamless as his Caulfield stables are in the same complex as Smerdon.
